Beyond the Label

Want a reliable tip for value and flavor? Head to Spain’s famous Rioja region. And if you’re really looking for something special, check out this boutique discovery, from Parker-praised wine whiz, Jean-Marc Sauboua.

Jean-Marc sourced the grapes from an old patch of premium Tempranillo vines (planted 40+ years ago). In the cellar, he aged the wine for 14 months in fine French oak barrels. And this elegant Crianza has debuted to serious fanfare. It boasts a slew of 90+ point ratings, including 91 points from Master of Wine Tim Atkin and critic James Suckling, who wrote: “This mixes delicious violets and lavender with dark plums and treacle tart. Medium-bodied and very fresh with tangy acidity and spicy undertones.”

Plus, it’s scooped the ‘Best Wine over £10’ trophy at the Catavinum World Wine Awards, a ‘Great Gold’ medal at Mono Vino, and more top medals. In other words, this one’s guaranteed to make a great impression on your dinner guests.

Crianza, by the way, is the juicy, vibrant style you’re most likely to see a local Riojan enjoying with their own dinner. Try grilled lamb, roasted pork, or a Spanish-inspired stew with chorizo, roasted red peppers, and garlic.

Jean-Marc prefers to make his wines in small batches – the mark of a quality-conscious winemaker. Order quickly to ensure you get to taste this special release.
