Beyond the Label

Concentrated and finely textured with a core of dark fruit flavors, Inside Track Limited Release Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the style of the famed Western Australia region from which it comes and the elite winery that produced it. Who would that be? Sorry, we’re sworn to secrecy.

You see, this Cab would be over $100 if sold by the winery. But due to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) we’ve signed, we’re able to offer it for a mere fraction of the cost. It’s all thanks to Ben Cohn, our on-the-ground Australian wine expert, who goes way back with the winery’s senior winemaker. When he got a call saying they had more juice than they did bottles, he knew he could negotiate a friends-only price. It didn’t take long for an NDA to be drafted, signed and filed away.

What that means is we can’t share any of the details—like any of the names behind it or the vineyards that supplied its grapes. Here’s what we can say…

The wine was crafted from premium grapes grown across Margaret River, a tiny-but-mighty subregion of Western Australia and one of the most isolated wine regions in the world. Just over three hours south of Perth, the gravelly-loam area is hugged by both the Indian and Southern oceans, and edged by extensive, biologically diverse forests—ideal conditions for viticulture. (Or, as Ben says, “it’s a grape-growers paradise.”)

The producer behind it was one of the area’s founding wineries, due in part to a famed Napa winemaker who visited in the early 1970s and saw their property’s vinous potential. He convinced the family who owned it to convert what was then a cattle farm into a vineyard.

Since then, the estate has become a go-to for wine connoisseurs worldwide, specializing in Chardonnay and Cab Sauvignon, with a laundry list of accolades from top critics and prestigious wine publications, alike.

In the glass, you can look forward to a purity of bramble fruit, dark plum and black currant flavors, anchored by raw cocoa tones and lifted by cassis and violet. Everything is integrated perfectly, with the barest hint of oak knitting everything together. Already delicious, it’s sure to age for the next decade.
