Beyond the Label

If you love great Cabernet, head to Langhorne Creek, home to small, quality-obsessed estates and some of Australia’s finest Cabs. Exhibit A—Chapel Road, a sumptuous Cabernet from the acclaimed Follett family and Lake Breeze Wines.

Leading Aussie critic James Halliday has given Lake Breeze his coveted 5-red-star rating and named it Australia’s Best Value Winery in his 2022 Wine Companion guide. He writes, “The Follett family are fabulous ambassadors for an oft-neglected region and embody the heart and soul that we all love about Australian winemaking. It’s a bonus that their wines also happen to represent the best value in the country.”

The Folletts have grown grapes in Langhorne Creek for over 120 years. In 1987, they established Lake Breeze Wines and have since won over 150 gold medals and 42 trophies for their wines. So, we’re pretty excited about getting their latest Cab into your glass. It boasts a double-gold medal from the China Wine & Spirits Awards, plus a 90-point rating from The Real Review. That’s in addition, of course, to the acclaim racked up by previous vintages—like this fantastic review from critic Sam Kim:

Beautifully expressed, this delectable Cabernet is filled with black currant, dark plum, cocoa and cedar characters with a hint of cigar complexity. It is concentrated and generously weighted on the palate, and delivers excellent fruit intensity and rich texture, wonderfully supported by supple tannins. Highly enjoyable.”

Crafted with fruit from premium vines (some 50 years old) and patiently barrel aged, Chapel Road will be ready to enjoy on arrival—especially with roast lamb or firm cheeses. You can also tuck a few bottles away for five to eight years. The wine will age beautifully. Either way, don’t delay. We’ve limited cases to go around.
