San Lucas Malbec Reserva 2017

But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.
If you love deep, ripe fruit flavor and velvet-smooth texture, Malbec from Argentina needs to be right at the top of your shopping list.
This shining example was made for you at the historic Pascual Toso estate – winner of the 2016 International Wine & Spirit Competition’s “Argentine Producer of the Year” Trophy. They’ve been making fine wines here since 1890, but quality (clearly) is sky-high, thanks to the efforts of legendary Napa consultant Paul Hobbs the cellar’s chief winemaker, Felipe Stahlschmidt.
“Malbec delivers a lot of drinking pleasure,” Hobbs has told Wine Spectator. And Pascual Toso is an estate that knows just deliver on the grape’s delicious potential – just wait until you get a load of this sumptuous 2017 Reserva.
Malbec is at its very best in Argentina’s Mendoza region. It’s mainly due to the high altitude of the vineyards, which allows the grapes to ripen fully in the heat of the day, with cool nights preserving the freshness of the fruity flavors. In these conditions, the wines also achieve a remarkable smoothness. As Hugh Johnson writes in The World Atlas of Wine, “The prevailing texture of Mendoza red is velvet.”
This Reserva adds extra layers of flavor and refinement through rigorous grape selection and 12 months’ aging in French and American oak barrels. The dark purple color goes hand-in-hand with elegant, smoky, ripe plum and blackberry aromas and flavors, with a touch of pepper, licorice, and dark chocolate. It’s a natural-born partner for a sizzling rib-eye steak hot off the grill. Enjoy now or keep in your wine rack for a few years.
