Like all top Chianti producers, the Barbanera family also crafts a small amount of ‘Super Tuscan,’ a mix of Italy’s native stars and international grapes like Cabernet.
The family’s flagship Vecciano cuvée has been hailed by top Italian critic Luca Maroni as “one of the all-time great Super Tuscan reds.” Saracosa is an exclusive (far more affordable) release showcasing the a similarly delicious blend: cherry-laced Sangiovese and soft, plummy Merlot.
Backed by an already-impressive award pedigree (and supported by the stellar 2017 vintage), the new edition was rated 94 points by critic Luca Maroni.
Wondering what to serve with this delicious selection? You could take a cue from winemaker Sofia Barbanera and the rest of the family: they like to enjoy Saracosa with the local salami or wild boar ragù.
