Beyond the Label

“I think these wines are worth knowing and worth drinking.”

That’s leading wine authority James Suckling on Bordeaux’s Côtes-de-Blaye region – and we strongly agree with his statement. Especially when you’re talking about the phenomenal 2015 vintage, which Suckling calls “extraordinary.”

We unearthed your perfect taste – a Gilbert & Gaillard 2017 gold medalist – at the small, but very quality-focused Château Mayne Mazerolles, situated just opposite the Gironde Estuary (across from the Médoc’s famous Grands Crus) and just next door to the famed Besançon Citadel – a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The estate’s sunny, south-facing vineyards sit upon clay-limestone tablelands and are sustainably farmed – a painstaking (and nerve-wracking!) process that winemaker Xavier Stoll believes yields the best results in the glass. Comprising Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), and Malbec (10%) and partially barrel aged for six months, this is boutique Bordeaux at its delicious peak. Gilbert & Gaillard judges raved: “Beautiful suppleness and aromas exuded in waves. Lengthy finish. A charming Blaye.” And here’s Xavier’s thoughts on what you can expect in the glass:

“This is a ruby-colored wine with inviting aromas of black-fruit compote and vanilla-tinged oak notes. The palate is broad and beautiful, with complex blackberry and cherry notes, earthy spice and a smooth tannins. It reminds me of picking blackberries in the summer.”

Limited cases imported – you know what you’ve got to do …
