Flavor Profile
For 38 years, Christian Moueix ran iconic Château Pétrus – perhaps the most sought-after Bordeaux of all, its reds can command $3,000+ a bottle. Already a winemaking legend, Christian has also been named Decanter “Man of the Year.” And thanks to our longstanding friendship, you can enjoy a rare taste of his winemaking talent at a very attractive price.
Brought to you by Christian’s family company, Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix (founded in 1937), this Private Reserve hails from the Médoc, “the most famous red wine district in Bordeaux, and possibly the world,” according to Jancis Robinson, MW. Like most of Bordeaux, the Médoc experienced a truly fabulous growing season in 2016. As critic James Suckling writes, “2016 is the third outstanding vintage in a row ... an excellent year, producing dynamic and well-structured wines.”
A classic, Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, Christian’s Private Reserve displays the hallmark elegance and purity Bordeaux enthusiasts expect from the Médoc. Look forward to expressive aromas of ripe black currant and blackberry, plus licorice and pepper notes. The palate offers more concentrated black fruit and spice flavors, with structured tannins and a long, smooth finish. Decant 30 minutes to an hour before serving, then pair with hearty red meat dishes or firm, aged cheeses.
Given the high demand for quality, well-priced Bordeaux, early orders of this Private Reserve are strongly recommended. First come, first served.
