Beyond the Label

Red blends are some of the most popular styles in our cellar, so we’re always on the lookout for exciting examples to share with our thirsty customers. This delicious taste hails from Spier, one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa with a history dating back to 1692. They’re also one of the most-awarded estates in the country and were named South Africa’s Winery of the Year at Mundus Vini a few years ago. Their exclusive Farmhouse label celebrates the estate’s focus on sustainable farming in vineyards across some of the Cape’s top wine districts.

Spier’s winemaking team has mastered the art of the red blend. For this Farmhouse release, they hand-picked grapes from top, organically farmed vineyards in the prestigious Paarl district. The final wine marries Malbec (52%), Pinotage (South Africa’s flagship red, 38%), and Cinsault (10%).

What can you expect in the glass? Juicy plum and black cherry aromas and flavors, supported by dark chocolate and vanilla spice notes. With firm tannins and a long, concentrated finish, this blockbuster red will shine with barbecued meats, hearty stews, and more.

Look out for Spier’s other Farmhouse releases – they’re a great example of the high-quality, great-value wine coming out of South Africa.
