An Amarone Dream Come True

Barana Amarone della Valpolicella, Italy

Prized for its opulence and complexity, Amarone della Valpolicella is one of Italy’s finest red wines. This luxurious selection from the Barana family is a dream come true for them…and for the lucky Vineyard Partners who secure a case.

The Barana family’s legacy began in 1958, when Angelo Barana purchased land and began cultivating vines in the Bisano district near Verona. Under his careful leadership, the family became one of the most respected grape growers in Amarone. For several decades, they sold their pristine grapesto top Amarone producers. But they always aspired to craft their own wines.

Second-generation proprietors Marco, Paolo and Stefania finally made their family’s dream a reality. In 2014, they built a winery, and in 2018—60 years after Angelo established the business—they bottled their first vintage.

As you can tell, Barana Amarone is a truly special wine, and Vineyard Partners have exclusive U.S. access, always at the best possible price. Keep reading to learn more about becoming a Vineyard Partner of this incredible family estate.

A “Golden” land for grape growing

The Barana family farms a small block of land in the Bisano district along the Montorio hills near Verona. Locals call this coveted area the “Golden Bowl,” due to the extremely high quality of the crops grown here and its unique circular shape.

Bisano’s rolling hills offer the climatic trifecta. Ample sunshine ripens fruit to perfection. Cool breezes preserve vibrancy. Well-draining limestone soils encourage vines to establish deep roots, yielding more complex, concentrated grapes—which are sustainably grown in accordance with Italy’s National Quality System for Integrated Production program.

Beyond being ideal for viticulture, Bisano is simply a beautiful place to explore. The Barana family hopes that, when you become a Vineyard Partner, they can welcome you at their estate one day. As Lucrezia says:

“Wine is a joy in itself, but it becomes even more pleasurable when we are able to share the passion and simplicity of our work with guests. For us, true hospitality means opening not only the doors of the cellar but also those of our lives. Visitors often tell us they feel immediately at home, welcomed like part of the family."
