Beyond the Label

The Holy Grail for Bordeaux Fans
Turn right out of Lafite ($1,125-plus a bottle for their 2009). Head past Mouton ($1,015-plus). Go through a small wood, and the next vineyards you'll come to are those of Château Ramage La Batisse – planted to the same mix of Merlot and Cabernet. This Cru Bourgeois Supérieur estate offers exceptional value and has "an impressive track record for quality for close to 30 years … Ramage La Batisse represents an elegant style of Bordeaux" (Robert Parker).

Château Ramage La Batisse is a Bordeaux lover’s dream – decked out in over ten medals (including three golds) and cellared to perfection. It's a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged 12 months in fine French barriques, that hails from the historic 2010 vintage, which Wine Spectator ranks 99 Points overall for wines that are "ripe and powerful" and "should be very long-lived."

This classic Cru Bourgeois Supérieur scores 91 Points from Wine Enthusiast: "This 2010 tastes rich and sweetly fruity, while its acidity supports firm tannins and ripe, jammy black-fruit flavors." It's definitely a wine for food, and will be a winner with hearty red meat dishes like roasted rack of lamb, roast beef or prime rib.

If you've caught our offers on earlier vintages, you’ll know how good Ramage is – and you’ll wisely pounce on the 2010 too.
