Flavor Profile
This 200 Gallons Reserva is a bold, beautifully smooth red is crafted by acclaimed winemaker Jamie Quendera, who was inspired by one of the most surprising chapters of U.S. wine history. During Prohibition, Section 29 allowed each household to produce up to 200 gallons of wine per year for ‘personal use’ (that’s more than 1,000 bottles!)
Here’s another twist of history: Alicante Bouschet was the go-to grape for these intrepid home winemakers. A Portuguese native, it was widely planted in California at the time, and loved for its deep color and intense flavor. It also happens to be Jamie’s specialty.
For this release, Jamie sourced the grapes from rare 100-year-old vines, which yield grapes with exceptionally concentrated flavors. For a unique twist, he then aged the wine for 12 months in custom double casks. The top and bottom are French oak (imparting subtle spice), while the long side planks are American oak (which provide notes of vanilla).
The result is an ultra-smooth Reserva, brimming with ripe black berry, raspberry, plum and those oaky-vanilla-spice accents. One sip and you’ll understand why it’s so popular with customers and critics alike. And, if you want it to be a winner in your house, serve it with pork, dark-meat poultry or hearty stews.
This is a must-try for fans of bold, powerhouse reds. Secure your case today (no bootlegging required!)
