Beyond the Label

Named for the town of Montepulciano, and primarily made with the Sangiovese grape, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of Tuscany’s—and Italy’s—greatest reds, mentioned fondly throughout history by the likes of Voltaire and Francesco Redi (who called it “the king of all wines”).

We’ve uncovered a seriously delicious release from the cellars of the renowned Barbanera family. It sports an impressive 96 points from leading critic Luca Maroni (plus a Berliner Wein Trophy gold medal), and you really need to try it.

Duca di Cardino was named for a royal Barbanera family ancestor and made with some of the finest grapes growing in the estate’s sloping, ideally sited vineyards. Long hours of sunshine, 24 months aging in barrel, and winemaker Sofia Barbanera’s careful hand result in a regal-status red that’s worthy of any special occasion.

Look forward to classic aromas of black cherry, tobacco, and leather, with balanced flavors of red and black fruit, roasted coffee beans, and dark chocolate. If time allows, decant—then enjoy with a hearty Italian dinner like osso buco or braciole alla napoletana (Neapolitan beef rolls).

The Barbanera family are behind many of our most popular Tuscan reds, so don’t delay in placing an order. (Limited cases available.)
