Hole in the Clouds Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Hole in the Clouds Sauvignon Blanc 2020
This exclusive Sauvignon Blanc hails from the renowned Rose family and Marlborough’s stunning, but very low-yielding, 2020 vintage. Enjoy leap-from-the-glass tropical fruit characters, plus that cut-grass note that makes Sauvignon such a classic.

Wine Details

Beyond the Label

Around 30 years ago, New Zealand burst onto the global wine stage with its uniquely intense, beautifully pure style of Sauvignon Blanc. Today, New Zealand Sauvignon is one of the world’s (and our customers’) most beloved whites. And this is one you simply must taste ...

Hole in the Clouds hails from the Rose family. Led by Wine Marlborough Lifetime Achievement Award winner Phil Rose, they were one of the first producers to plant in the Golden Mile (the Marlborough region’s original and best vineyard strip). Their estate lies in the Kei Puta Te Wairau valley, which means ‘hole in the clouds’ in the local Maori dialect. The name speaks to the valley’s beautiful landscape, marked by brilliant sunshine, regal mountains, and the ever-changing sea.

Speaking of sunshine, Marlborough benefitted from an exceptionally sunny and dry growing season in 2020. These conditions helped the Sauvignon Blanc grapes ripen to perfection and develop their trademark intensity. Look forward to leap-from-the-glass tropical fruit, plus fresh citrus and cut-grass characters. Whether you enjoy a glass on its own or with food (goat cheese, shellfish, or salads would all be tasty), this vibrant white is sure to poke a hole in your clouds and let the sunshine through.

Another note on Marlborough’s 2020 vintage: while quality was up, quantity was way down. This means there’s less wine to go around than normal, so secure your share of this exhilarating Sauvignon while you can.
