J Opi Reserve Malbec 2019

A few years ago, Opi Sadler’s ‘regular’ Malbec won a big trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards: “Mouthfilling, complex and amazing value,” raved judges.

Now for a delicious step up in quality…

For this limited-edition Reserve, Opi (below, whose peers call him the Malbec ‘Magician’) hand harvested the premium fruit from select old vines in his highest vineyards, then gave the wine an extra-long, 15-month slumber in fine French and U.S. oak barrels. The result is a Malbec with serious color and depth of flavor.

With a pretty lengthy list of international accolades to its name—including 93 points and a gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard for this 2019 release—it’s definitely a red that’s ready to make a statement. Here are the judges on what to expect in the glass:

“Oaky nose revealing effusive red and black berries with a heady floral sensation. The palate shows a caressing texture, polished tannins, a well-organized fusion of fruit and oak and a lingering finish.” Our note: it’s the perfect pairing for steaks or meaty pastas.
