Flavor Profile
“The Most Exciting Wine Place on the Planet Today”
Wine Spectator’s Matt Kramer is raving about Portugal’s full-flavored reds – and this exciting exclusive will show you why. It’s from Tejo, a remote, interior region of Portugal. Here you’ll find a land untouched by modern times, all-but overlooked by the rest of the wine world … for the time being. We’ve been swooping down on rich pickings here for years, bringing you remarkable wines that over-deliver on flavor and value.
A perennial best-seller, this one – a blend of international Syrah and local stars Alicante Bouschet and Castelão – was crafted by José Lobo de Vasconcelos’ 17th-century estate. The property once served as the king of Portugal’s falconry, and José’s family (whose surname means ‘wolf’) were the caretakers there. Lobo e Falcão (‘Wolf and Falcon’) is a tribute to them, as they would keep special barrels of their wine tucked away for the king when he stopped by for a visit.
Here’s Wine Enthusiast’s Roger Voss on a previous release, which scooped the magazine’s Best Buy rating: “rich, immediately fruity character and dense color. Structure and concentration leave room for an elegant texture. Blackberry juiciness shines at the end.”
Not surprisingly, the new 2018 release has earned Wine Enthusiast’s Best Buy rating once again. With all the lush, dark-fruit flavor, it’ll shine alongside hearty foods … like beef tenderloin, thick-cut pork chops, steaks, burgers, and more.
Taste why Portugal’s reds are all the rage – and let us know what you think once you’ve cracked open this flavor-packed star.
