Pillastro Nero 2016

Pillastro Nero 2016
Three-time Vinitaly Winemaker of the Year Angelo Maci has outdone himself with this deep, dark Pillastro red. Hailing from old vines and barrel aged for spicy complexity, this top-vintage Cab-Primitivo brims with velvety, black-fruit flavor.

Wine Details

Beyond the Label

Angelo Maci’s Pillastro collection boasts some of the most popular Italian wines in our cellar. It’s no surprise when you consider Angelo’s three Vinitaly Winemaker of the Year titles – and the accompanying Southern Italian Winery of the Year nods for his Cantine due Palme estate in sunny Puglia. Now, we’re thrilled to introduce Angelo’s latest addition …

Pillastro Nero is a true ‘black red’ – from the ornate label to the deep, dark wine inside. Angelo crafted it from Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Primitivo (40%) grown on his 80-year-old alberello-trained bush vines. These gnarled heirlooms yield precious few grapes, meaning each one is a knot of intensely concentrated flavor. And thanks to Puglia’s stellar 2016 vintage, quality really skyrocketed.

Back in the winery, Angelo treated Pillastro Nero to six months’ barrel aging. This imparted toasty oak and sweet spice notes to the wine’s lusciously ripe, black- and bramble-fruit flavors. Velvety enough to enjoy on its own, this will also shine alongside a juicy steak or heaping plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

Sure to impress fans of Angelo’s Pillastro collection (or any BIG, super-rich reds). Secure your share while our limited cases last.
