Flavor Profile
South Africa may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about fabulous wines – but it should be! And thanks to our extended network of contacts here, you get to enjoy some of this exciting country’s finest.
Established in 1928, Stellenrust is one of South Africa’s most acclaimed family-run wineries, famous for their heady, concentrated examples of Syrah – aka, the country’s flagship red grape. Their star winemaker, Tertius Boshoff, selects only the ripest bunches from three separate vineyards in the heart of Stellenbosch’s “Golden Triangle.” Often called South Africa’s answer to Napa Valley, this area “consistently produces the greatest number of the Cape’s finest wines,” writes Tim Atkin, MW. In other words, this is serious wine territory.
In a nod to the grape’s French heritage, Tertius aged the wine in expensive French oak barrels for a year, adding a touch of baking spice charm to the wine’s inviting white pepper, floral, and juicy raspberry notes. The perfect wine to pour with smoky BBQ delights like wings or ribs.
