Now, we’re honoring the work with its own Maltese Falcon Pinot Noir, a rich and compelling California pour that offers a depth of red fruit flavor.
The wine comes to us via the state’s North Coast area, a vast region that stretches roughly from San Francisco to Fort Bragg and includes the Napa and Sonoma valleys, Russian River, the Stags Leap District and Carneros.
Because vineyards throughout the appellation were sourced to produce it, coastal breezes, cooling fog and crisp mountain air all played a role in ensuring its ultimate freshness. On the palate, a blend of cherry, strawberry and raspberry flavors is knit together with balanced acidity and velvet-soft tannins, creating a plush mouthfeel and a clean finish.
Just like the movie’s star—detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart), who holds his own in any situation encountered in his quest for the jewel-encrusted falcon—the wine works well with a variety of meals and menus. Though we like it best, funnily enough, with all sorts of fowl.
