Flavor Profile
Originally from the Loire Valley, Chenin Blanc made its way to South Africa with early French settlers. Today, Chenin Blanc is the Cape’s flagship white. And you’re in for a fresh, fruit-rich taste with The Huguenot Chenin Blanc 2025, which was inspired by the French Huguenots who settled in the wine’s native Franschhoek Valley (Franschhoek is Afrikaans for “French Corner”).
This lovely Chenin Blanc was crafted by the talented Ryan Puttick (below), who trained in the prestigious Stellenbosch region and in Germany before becoming head winemaker at the historic Franschhoek Cellar. Founded in the early 1900s by brandy distiller W.H. Joubert, the winery really gained recognition in the 1940s, when a group of passionate local growers joined together to make wine here.
To craft The Huguenot, Ryan cool fermented the wine (the colder temperatures lock in vibrancy) and fermented part of it on its lees for a little extra richness. The wine brims with elegant honeysuckle, peach, pineapple and passion fruit aromas and flavors, with just a hint of honey and lemon zest.
Since the cellar’s hometown of Franschhoek belongs to the Délice Network of Good Food Cities of the World, Ryan takes food pairings for his Chenin very seriously. He suggests seafood (like baked haddock with fries or even sushi), roasted chicken or creamy pasta dishes.
However you plan to enjoy it, one thing’s for certain: this is a brilliant Chenin Blanc that every white wine fan needs to taste. Order your share today.
