When our California expert, Clare Tooley, tasted this Paso Robles-grown Malbec at a local winery, she knew she’d found something special. The estate’s proprietors were so pleased with her enthusiastic response, they sent her home with a bottle—and the promise that a good deal could be made, so long as she didn’t divulge their identity (to protect their normally much higher prices).
On the menu at Clare’s house that night? Tri-tip steak, flame-grilled with her husband’s secret-recipe rub.
