Flavor Profile
Every famous wine region has a historic family (or two) that helped put it on the fine wine map. For Portugal’s premium Douro Valley, it’s the legendary Van Zeller clan. You probably know the Van Zellers as the name behind some of our best-selling Portuguese wines. Now, we’re pleased to present you with something very special...
Vilarissa Valley Grande Reserva represents the pinnacle of the Van Zellers’ range. The family has crafted it from two of the Douro Valley’s most iconic native grapes, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, grown on vines between 40 and 70 years old. These gnarled heirlooms produce precious few grapes, but the fruit they do yield is incredibly concentrated.
In the cellar, the team treated the wine to 12 months in top-notch French and American oak barrels. Given all the care and attention, it should come as no surprise that Vilarissa earned 91 points and a gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard.
Look forward to rich plum, black cherry and delicate floral aromas. The palate adds in hints of spiced vanilla and coconut, from the time in oak, along with fine tannins and a smooth, persistent finish. A wonderful wine to sip alongside roasted pork, stews and other hearty fare or all on its own.
Though drinking beautifully now, this luxe Grande Reserva will also age well for years to come. Secure your share today and enjoy it upon arrival or save for a special occasion.
