William ‘Bill’ Knuttel spent decades building the reputations of some of California’s greatest boutique wineries, including Saintsbury and Chalk Hill. These days, it’s his own name on the bottle, so he’s even more finicky about quality. And just wait until you taste his gorgeous Napa Valley Chardonnay, sporting a bronze medal from the San Francisco International Wine Competition.
Bill’s a big fan of white Burgundy, so he crafted his ‘Broadsword Blend’ Chardonnay to reach the same level of elegance and finesse. After sourcing premium parcels from his favorite Napa Valley vineyards (which really thrived, thanks to the excellent 2019 vintage), Bill chose to barrel ferment the Chardonnay in fine French oak. He was so impressed with the quality that he put the wine under his limited ‘Vineyard Designate Series’ label.
The resulting Chardonnay brims with vibrant tropical fruit and creamy oak aromas and flavors. With a rich, yet elegant, palate, this will shine alongside chicken roulade, grilled seafood or a plate of crackers and triple-crème cheese.
