Discover an ancient-vine Portuguese Treasure
Centenário Grande Reserva, Portugal
6 bottles – $209.94 $149.94 ($29.99 per bottle)
12 bottles – $419.88 $275.88 ($22.99 per bottle)
Founded in 1770, Quinta do Casal Branco has been in José Lobo de Vasconcelos’ family for over 250 years. Located in the heart of Tejo, an exciting Portuguese region just north of Lisbon, the 1,100-hectare estate has a rich history. It was once the largest royal falcon hunting grown in Portugal—José’s family used to tuck away special barrels for the king to enjoy on his visits—and it’s now famous for breeding supremely elegant Lusitano dressage horses.
José and head winemaker Joana Lopes have remained faithful to Portugal’s great winemaking traditions, like foot-trodding grapes in lagars (large stone basins). But they’re also fearless innovators. As of 2024, Casal Branco is the first and only winery in Tejo to earn a Sustainability Certification from ViniPortugal. Their eco-friendly practices include promoting biodiversity in the vineyard, using renewable energy sources and efficient water management.
Centenário Grande Reserva is the estate’s most luxurious wine, crafted with grapes from José’s most prized vineyard and its extremely rare, 100-plus-year-old vines. It’s a classically elegant European red, on par with a top Bordeaux.
When you become a Vineyard Partner, you’ll be among a select few in the U.S. to enjoy this truly special wine. Read on to learn more and secure your share.

A Century-Old ‘Illegal’ Vineyard
Quinta do Casal Branco’s vineyards lie on sandy, gravelly ridges east of the estate, beside the great river Tagus. One of these vineyards is José’s pride and joy—and he has fought to preserve its precious, 100-plus-year-old vines.
This vineyard is ‘illegal’ because appellation authorities argue that these ancient vines should not have the right to the Tejo denomination. Why? Simply because the vines are planted among equally ancient olive trees.
But those stuffy bureaucrats forget that this was just the old way of doing things. Back in the 1960s, Bordeaux vineyards still had fruit trees dotted around the vines. The arrival of big tractors and too many bureaucrats saw all the trees cut down. But not here.
José refused to give into these fussy rules and kept his vineyard in tact. As a result, the vines produce “super-premium” fruit—small, wrinkly grapes with the ripest flavors. These grapes give Centenário Grande Reserva incredible depth, complexity and concentration.
Omitting “Tejo” from the label is a very small price to pay for the exceptional quality that reaches your glass.

Visiting Casal Branco: Reanna shares her story
By Reanna Walker, Personal Wine Advisor
“I’m a huge fan of Portuguese wine and José’s beautiful estate has been on my bucket list for ages. We were welcomed warmly and I was in awe of José’s brilliant team. It was the first day of harvest and such a treat to see the place in full swing...all the bountiful clusters carefully picked and taken into the winery...soon to become their incredible wines.
We tasted grapes off the vine and had a wonderful tasting that included Centenário 2023, paired with a few local dishes. Sitting in that sunny courtyard, I couldn’t feel happier. The warmth of the family and the magic of the estate left me eager to return.
If you want to become a Vineyard Partner and experience Centenário just like I did, reach out to me or one of my fellow Personal Wine Advisors at 888-863-7384."
