discover a true icon of châteauneuf-du-pape
Château Sixtine, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
6 bottles – $419.94 $269.94 ($44.99 per bottle)
12 bottles – $839.88 $515.88 ($42.99 per bottle)
Château Sixtine is the powerful flagship release from Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s legendary Diffonty family, who have been growing grapes here since 1673.
In 1924, Félicien Diffonty and his son were founding members of Le Syndicat de Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France’s first Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC). Since then, the family has “lead Châteauneuf-du-Pape to new levels of quality,” writes Wine Spectator.
Pope John XXIII blessed the family’s estate in 1958 and a case of their wine is still sent to the Vatican every year. It’s also a long-time favorite of the world’s leading wine critic, Robert Parker. In fact, it was the first case of Châteauneuf-du-Pape he ever purchased. Parker calls current proprietor and winemaker Jean-Marc Diffonty “one of the appellation’s dynamic young revolutionaries.”
Over the last decade or so, Jean-Marc has taken quality to new heights. He’s also converted to organic farming and integrated sustainable growing practices. Every year, his wines impress the world’s top critics, winning scores in the high 90s, in addition to gold medals at top competitions in France and beyond.
Production for his flagship release is very small, so Vineyard Partner allocations are highly sought-after.

like a rolling stone…
Few wines can match the richness and class of those from the famed village of Châteauneuf-du- Pape in France’s southern Rhône Valley.
Here, unique galets roulés stones (‘pudding stones’) are strewn throughout the vineyards, trapping heat and releasing it in the evening, helping grapes ripen to perfection. The Mistral wind whips through the vines, locking in a thrilling freshness in the world-famous blends of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
Within the tiny village (which mesures just 12 square miles), the upper echelon of estates were founded by the region’s most historic families. Their members helped form the original syndicate—before modern appellations were even created. As you’d expect, their wines earn serious acclaim every year.
The Diffonty family’s Château Sixtine is one of the few estates with such an impressive résumé. The Perrin family, of Château de Beaucastel fame, and the Brunier family, who make Vieux Télégraphe, are a couple others. Their wines usually command $70 to $100+ a bottle.
Thanks to our long relationship with the Diffonty family, Vineyard Partners have access to their flagship red at a far friendlier price.
