Rare napa Luxury
Raymond Vineyards’ ‘Velvet Room Reserve,’ Napa
6 bottles – $599.94 $389.94 ($64.99 per bottle)
12 bottles – $1,199.88 $719.88 ($59.99 per bottle)
Raymond Vineyards is one of Napa’s most historic wineries, famed for celebrity visits and fine wines. For over 20 years, it’s been run by Burgundy native Jean-Charles Boisset, who, according to critic Robert Parker, “seems to be pulling out all the stops to create something very special with these wines.”
The ace up his sleeve? Jean-Charles brought on Stephanie Putnam, a top winemaker who made a name for herself at Far Niente and Hess (two of the biggest names in Napa). She’s racked up so many 90+ point ratings and prestigious awards—like The Wine News’ Cabernet of the Year and the Top 100 lists in both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast—that we stopped keeping track.
For this ultra-luxurious red, he and Stephanie envisioned a singular, rare wine. There would be no set grape variety, but two things would never change: This unique wine would always capture the velvety, opulent essence of their signature Red Room, and there never would be any expense spared—the best grapes of the vintage aged in their finest French oak barrels.
Velvet Room Reserve is one of the most lavishly crafted reds in all of Napa Valley. When you consider that Napa’s other cult reds can go for crazy sums (Scarecrow is $1,000 a bottle, while Sloan goes for over $700 a bottle), this even-smaller-production red is a relative Napa bargain.

pioneering history meets visionary innovation
Raymond Vineyards’ roots go all the way back to 1933 when Roy Raymond arrived in Napa. He worked as a winemaker at Beringer for over 30 years before he and his two sons set out on their own, buying vineyards in Napa’s Rutherford region.
Their first “Raymond” vintage was 1974. Just two years later, the Judgment of Paris put Napa on the map, skyrocketing the region to the highest echelon of the wine world. With all the recognition, the Raymond family’s wines stood out for their power and finesse.
Meanwhile, Jean-Charles Boisset was growing up near centuries-old Clos de Vougeot, one of the most famous vineyards in the world. But after a trip to Sonoma’s historic Buena Vista Winery at just 10 years old, he fell in love with California and aspired to be a part of it.
Twenty years later, he would go on to make this dream a reality and acquired Raymond Vineyards. He brought on the hugely talented Stephanie Putnam as head winemaker and added his visionary flair to the estate’s pioneering spirit and singular terroir.
He created the Corridor of the Senses, an interactive exhibit where visitors touch textures and smell aromas typically found in wine. Outside, the Theater of Nature (pictured) is an immersive vineyard tour, giving guests a real life look at the major natural factors at play, as well as the organic and biodynamic methods that the team employs, while the Red Room is the moody, glamorous tasting room, and the inspiration for their lavish Velvet Room Reserve.
