“Sicily is one of the most exciting wine regions in the world,” writes The New York Times. When you try this bold red, we think you’ll agree. Crafted by the acclaimed Francesco Asaro and Mattia Filippi, it’s a deep, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon – and one of our top finds from this sunny, vine-growing paradise.
Cabernet Sauvignon produces impressive, serious wines worldwide but – as you’ll taste – it develops a special richness in the Sicilian sunshine. Francesco and Mattia hand-selected parcels of particularly ripe, well-structured fruit from their premium vineyards in the rolling hills of Trapani, in western Sicily. They overlook the small town of Vita, whose inhabitants are known as ‘vitese,’ which means ‘full of life.’ It’s an apt name for this wine too, given its vibrant fruit flavors.
Key to the intensity you’ll get in the glass: Francesco and Mattia added a dash (5 percent) of appassimento (sun-dried) grapes, for extra richness and complexity. A portion of the blend was aged in new French and American barrels for six months, to soften Cabernet’s trademark firm tannins and add attractive touches of vanilla and spice.
This silky, deep-colored red bursts with black cherry and plum fruit, infused with subtle dark chocolate and baking spice notes. Order your share today – then when it arrives, enjoy with mature, hard cheeses and meaty pastas.
