Northern Italian winemaker Alessandro Gallici is well known for the craftsmanship he puts into each and every bottle of sparkling wine he produces. And for his top-of-the-line, limited-edition Alessandro Gallici Prosecco Anniversario, he really pulled out all the stops—starting with the grapes.
In search of the perfect Glera (the variety used for all Prosecco), Alessandro headed to a historic site—a vineyard called 47 Anno Domini—down in Roncade, a municipality in Treviso, about 16 miles north of Venice. Named for the famous Roman road (built way back in 47 A.D.) that borders the property, the vineyard is certified organic by a local organization and is farmed only with natural vegetable-derived fertilizers.
This gentle farming works in concert with the area’s mineral-rich soil, ample sunlight and gentle sea breezes to help grapes develop an extra intensity of flavor. And to ensure the fruit for this special cuvée retains its vibrancy, Alessandro doesn’t let it travel too far for production, either; he works with a local winery to shepherd the grapes through the bubble-producing Charmat method with kid-glove level care.
When all is said and done, the wine is bottled in a beautiful beveled, jewel-like bottle that makes an impressive gift or centerpiece for your dining table. Pop it open to reveal a fine stream of bubbles, a luscious, inviting palate of tropical fruit and fresh green apple, and delicate floral notes.
It is the perfect sparkling wine to mark any special occasion, but it is made in very limited quantities—prompt orders recommended.
