Flavor Profile
The full-bodied Aluado Chardonnay is a brilliant example of why Portugal is such a paradise for wine lovers, or as Wine Spectator notes, “prices are superb and quality has never been better.” Bursting with peach and apricot flavours, it’s the perfect pour for any fan of elegant white wines.
It’s crafted by José Neiva Correia, one of Portugal’s most talented winemakers, at the historic Quinta de Porto Franco estate. José’s friends started calling him aluado (meaning moonstruck or crazy) after his unconventional decision to craft a wine solely from Alicante Bouschet…a famously tricky grape usually found in blends. This “mad” idea turned out to be a stoke of brilliance (Aluado Alicante Bouschet is one of our best-selling reds). So when we heard he’d created a Chardonnay, we jumped at the chance to add it to our range.
The finest parcels from mature vines are used to craft the beauty. José keeps a watchful eye over the vineyards, where plenty of sunshine is tempered by cooling Atlantic breezes. This coastal climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, developing expressive fruit with great levels of flavor complexity.
The resulting wine offers layered aromas of ripe pear, melon and fresh peach. The palate is beautifully balanced, with flavors of peach, apricot and lemon, leading to a refreshing citrusy finish.
Gilbert & Gaillard described the previous vintage as a “highly seductive Chardonnay.” And the latest vintage is tasting as good as ever…as you’ll taste from the very first sip. Don’t miss your chance to experience this elegant white––order your share today.
