Beyond the Label

When the Portuguese want a refreshing, sophisticated white, they turn to Alvarinho (aka Albariño in Spain). And savvy wine fans seek out the premium examples from Anselmo Mendes, an estate rated one of Wine & Spirits’ Top 100 Wineries of 2017 and hailed as “one of the region’s top names” by The Wine Advocate.

Anselmo’s top-quality Alvarinho cuvées are crafted at his beautiful estate in the mountains of Monção e Melgaço, a special sub-region of Vinho Verde – widely regarded as the best place to grow Alvarinho. They also regularly earn 90-plus point ratings from major critics. The exclusive he makes just for us is no exception – it proudly holds a 91-point gold medal from France’s top wine guide.

Press Association critic Sam Wylie-Harris is also a BIG fan of this release: “A terrific introduction to Portuguese Alvarinho (Albariño) from the Vinho Verde region, this is a floral-edged, seriously stylish expression, with ripe peach, tropical fruits, and a hint of lemon mingling on a silky palate with beams of freshness from beginning to end. While it pairs equally well with sardines or grilled fish, this wine has an intensity that should really be appreciated on its own before you dive into the food.”

Given Anselmo’s star power in the wine industry, we’re predicting our limited stock of this exclusive won’t last long. (You know what you need to do.)
