Beyond the Label

Named after Cantine Federici’s founder, Antonio Federici Collezione Oro is a blend of indigenous grapes Montepulciano and Cesanese. Aged six months in French oak, it displays ripe red berry and warm spice notes, all wrapped up in a velvet-smooth texture.

One sip and you'll understand why previous vintages have been rated 99 points by critic Luca Maroni, and why the Federici family's work has stood the test of time.

Farming since the early 1900s and cultivating grapes since 1960, the family is one of the first known wine producers in Italy's Roma DOC, the official title for the vineyards surrounding Italy’s capital city. The area benefits from a trifecta of cooling breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, fertile volcanic and tufo soils, and protection from the elements thanks to the Apennine Mountains to the northeast.

Run today by third-generation Damiano Federici, the estate’s production is focused on making high-quality wines from grapes that have been important to the area for centuries. This is the special-edition red (“Collezione Oro” translates to “gold collection”) and is perfect for any special, big Italian-style feast.

Ripe and fruitful, it’s still super fresh and versatile, with raspberry and ripe plum flavors that work alongside everything from a plate of antipasto, to favorite pasta dishes to a classic Tuscan steak.

Most of Cantine Federici’s wines are sold directly to local restaurants. It’s rare to see them stateside, so act quickly for your share.
