Flavor Profile
There’s nothing quite like a perfectly mature Rioja Reserva – smooth, mellow, and rippling with lovely red berry and toasty oak notes. And when the bottle comes direct from the cellars of Javier Murúa (the talent behind one of our favorite Riojas), you know you’re in for a serious treat.
Critics at London’s Sunday Express have hailed Javier’s regular Barón de Barbón release as being “what true Rioja is all about” – and this sumptuous Reserva is a step up in quality from that. Its past awards pedigree includes top honors at the Wines from Spain Awards and several international gold medals. We’ve been counting the days until the 2014 was released – and it more than lives up to its acclaimed predecessors in the glass.
Thanks to extended aging – 24 months in fine French and American oak barrels, plus another three years in bottle – it is positively brimming with strawberry notes, accented by toasty-vanilla and clove flavors. Delight your dinner guests and serve it like the Spanish locals: at a long, leisurely dinner starring simple roast lamb.
Don’t linger too long when ordering, though – quantities are limited.
