Flavor Profile
Family always comes first at Telaya Wine Co, a former Idaho Winery of the Year (The Wine Press Northwest). It’s the driving force behind everything they do—and at the heart of their Boise River Cellars Syrah.
In fact, family is why Telaya Wine Co. exists. Earl and Carrie Sullivan wanted to build a business that would leverage their career experience (international travel and science, respectively), while allowing them to work together and model hard work, perseverance and entrepreneurship for their sons.
This philosophy extends into the winery and tasting room—Earl and Carrie treat their team and customers like family. They also source grapes from several family-owned vineyards across Idaho and Washington—including the renowned Skyline Vineyard, where they work closely with the growers to harvest Syrah for this bold red.
Skyline Vineyard is in the Snake River Valley, an American Viticultural Area with roots dating back to the 1800s. The region benefits from high elevations (which create dramatic day-to-night temperature shifts that concentrate flavors in grapes), harsh winters that help vines grow hardier and diverse glacial soils that enhance structure and tannins in red wines. Most interestingly, the valley lies on the same latitude as France’s Rhône Valley, making it ideal for traditional Rhône grapes like Syrah.
In the cellar, Earl and Carrie’s winemaking techniques focused on extracting rich color and flavor from the grapes. The wine then rests in French oak barrels for 33 months, which imparts spice, vanilla and cedar notes to its primary flavors of blackberry pie and earthy tones. With great structure and tannic backbone, this fine Syrah should age well for 10 to 15 years.
This is exactly the kind of wine we love to share with you—a high-quality, uniquely American red from a hardworking family estate. But only 672 cases were made, so act quickly to secure yours.
