Flavor Profile
If you’re a fan of Italian whites, then you’re in for a real treat with Borgo Torre. It’s a crisp, citrusy white made from Bianchello, one of Italy’s hidden gem grape varieties. Light, refreshing and super easy drinking, it’s the kind of white you’ll want chilled and ready for sunny afternoons.
This wine was crafted by Claudio Morelli, whose family has made wine in the Marche’s Bianchello del Metauro sub-zone for five generations. As the region’s name implies, its producers specialize in Bianchello, an indigenous and ancient variety grown exclusively on the hills along the Metauro river.
(Fun fact: Legend has it that during the Punic wars, the Carthaginian troops got drunk on Bianchello, leading to their defeat by the Romans.)
The family’s estate is at a key location mere miles from the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea, where their vines can be dually cooled by both bodies of water. In the area’s warm climate, the cooling influence helps the grapes retain freshness while still achieving fully ripe fruit flavors…which is exactly what you’ll taste in this delicious bottling.
A classic expression of Bianchello, it opens with delicate floral and orchard fruit aromas, and leads into an elegant, integrated palate of similar flavors. It’s delightful with seafood, white-sauced pasta dishes or summer salads.
Bianchello is so popular with locals that the bottles almost never make it Stateside. Hurry to be among the first (and only!) to taste one of our favorites.
