Beyond the Label

The good times keep rolling for Bordeaux fans. As critic James Suckling writes, “2020 is the third outstanding vintage in a row for Bordeaux and marks perhaps the first time the region has experienced such a high-quality trilogy of superlative years.”

Château de la Grande Tour hails from the highly respected Earl Christian Dumas & Fils. Crafted mainly from plummy-smooth Merlot (plus a healthy dash of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc), it’s a classic example of how Bordeaux’s many petites châteaux can way over-deliver on value for money. The wine also boasts a Gilbert & Gaillard gold medal. Judges raved:

“Perky nose of ripe garden berry fruits. The palate is crisp, well-balanced and savoury and shows more of the same, extremely delightful aromas...already very enjoyable.”

Bordeaux blends like this are all about a balance between ripe fruit flavor, structured tannins and fresh acidity. In short: it’s a wine that will really come into its own with a meal. Serve alongside a Sunday roast beef with mushroom sauce (to really play up the earthy notes in the wine).

Just be sure you claim your bottles soon—demand for well-priced Bordeaux from such a stellar year remains sky high and only continues to grow.
