Beyond the Label

Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s 2018 is “yet another high-quality vintage,” reports Jancis Robinson, MW. And expert Jeb Dunnuck writes that this stellar year “has produced charming, forward, elegant wines.” No argument from us, or from any of the other top critics – everyone is raving about this great harvest.

There’s no better taste for fans than Château Sixtine, the legendary Diffonty family’s powerful flagship release. In the past, it’s been awarded a higher score than iconic Château de Beaucastel (for many, the finest Châteauneuf of all), and the 2018 release arrives with its own major acclaim. It won gold in Paris and was scored 93 points by Decanter and 91-93 points by Dunnuck. But most importantly, it was rated the #2 red (out of over 150 wines) at the annual competition in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, placing above some very iconic names.

“Deep ruby/purple-colored, with notes of crème de cassis, blackberries, melted licorice, and pepper, it’s medium- to full-bodied, with good density, ripe, polished tannins, and a beautiful finish.” – 91-93 points, Jeb Dunnuck

“Very deep and sonorous on the palate – promising. The tannins are robust but ripe, as is the fruit.” – 93 points, Decanter

A classic Châteauneuf blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, Château Sixtine is made in extremely small quantities at the Diffonty’s small estate. While already delicious now (especially with traditional pairings like roasted lamb or ratatouille), don’t be afraid to stash a few bottles away for the coming years. Secure your share today.
