Beyond the Label

Here’s a true Sicilian specialty with a heartwarming story to share over a big, Italian-style feast. Talented winemaker Donna Ninetta grew up in eastern Sicily, where she helped out in her family’s vineyards. When her family moved to the island’s western side for her father’s work, she took a keepsake: a vine cutting of Nerello Mascalese.

Years later, she planted a whole vineyard from that single vine, making her special plot one of the first Nerello Mascalese vineyards on Sicily’s western side. This wine hails from that same vineyard, and brims with silky berry and wild herb flavors.

Donna loves to pair her elegant red alongside a staple of Sicilian cuisine, arancini—Italian rice balls, stuffed with meat, cheese and often peas, then breaded and deep fried. For a simpler match, try your favorite pizza or pasta!

This treasured red makes a delicious dinner companion—don’t miss out on this rising star.
