Beyond the Label

If you haven’t yet tasted the sparkling wines of England, then you’re in for a real treat…

Decanter has said that “English sparkling wine is a world-class product,” and we’re thrilled to bring you this boutique release from Henry and Kaye Laithwaite’s tiny vineyard in Marlow, England. Having won awards since it was first launched, Harrow & Hope Blanc de Noir is one of the country’s best bubblies.

This exquisite Blanc de Noirs arrives with a gold medal and is made from 100% Pinot Noir (during the winemaking process the juice never touches the grape skins, so the color of the wine remains clear). The Pinot Noir is from a special corner of Henry and Kaye’s vineyard—a plot perched on the end of a Thames gravel terrace, formed by the river cutting into the Chilterns chalk around 450,000 years ago. It left behind a complex layer of clay, flint and gravel that Henry and Kaye felt would be perfectly suited to Pinot Noir, giving it ripeness, texture and weight. And right they were…

Harrow & Hope is wonderfully complex, with aromas of fresh berry, hints of peach and classic toasty brioche notes. The palate offers similar flavors, plus a vibrant minerality, effervescent bubbles and a lengthy finish. Perfect for toasting special moments and milestones, and a unique gift for wine-loving friends.

Always working organically, Henry and Kaye focus on building the natural biome both above and below ground by not using synthetic pesticides or herbicides. They also utilize homemade compost and plant cover crops—which aid in soil fertility, help avoid erosion and reduce soil compaction, among other benefits. Simply put, they’re working with nature instead of against it.

Each bottle of Harrow & Hope is a tribute to traditional method of viticulture and winemaking, to the unique characteristics of Marlow and to the spirit of adventure. In the words of Henry and Kaye:

“Harrow & Hope is all about the relationship between man, vine…and flint. Our sunny, south-facing chalk and flint slopes above Marlow are pure heaven for the vines…but hell for our machinery. Every day, we hope to get through our vineyard work without breaking something. Broken harrows and shredded tires are part of our daily life. But this is the price we pay to make wines of character, complexity and longevity. After all, nothing worth treasuring ever came easy.

Made in small quantities with the utmost care, this special bubbly is a shining example of how exceptional English sparkling wine can be—and why it often outscores Champagne at large competitions. Limited bottles available—hurry for your share of this delicious treasure.
