Hommage à L'Amour 2018
Philippe Lamour was a legendary lawyer, politician and civil engineer (and, clearly, a busy guy). He had an adoration for—some would say an obsession with—the wines of the southern Rhône, particularly those that hailed from the region’s prestigious cru vineyards.
When his keen eye for valuable property took in Château Saint Louis la Perdrix in premium Costières de Nîmes (“a rising star” of the southern Rhône, proclaims Decanter), it was strewn with the same heat-trapping galet stones of those other famous vineyards and he was convinced he’d stumbled on the investment opportunity of a lifetime.
Today, proprietor Vianney Castan maintains Phillippe-approved, strict quality guidelines—including hand tending vines and hand harvesting grapes from the estate’s tiny, old-vine plot. A classic marriage of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan from the superb 2018 vintage, his “homage” to Phillippe’s legacy was also partially aged in French oak barrels and boasts two gold medals.
