Il Papavero Primitivo 2020

Il Papavero Primitivo 2020
Winemaker Scipione Giuliani selects top-notch Primitivo grapes from low-yielding (flavor-boosting), 50-year-old vines in the best vineyards of Puglia. The result is Il Papavero Primitivo, a 90-point red wine that bursts with spicy dark-fruit flavors.

Beyond the Label

Every year, fifth-generation winemaker Scipione Giuliani scours the vineyards of sunny Puglia (the ‘heel’ of Italy’s boot), searching for the perfect grapes to use in his Il Papavero Primitivo. As many of our customers have discovered, his quality obsession pays off.

Boasting a long history of international acclaim, this rich Primitivo is crafted from one of Scipione’s best discoveries: a tiny plot of 50-year-old vines that yield just enough fruit to make a powerfully rich, succulent-fruited red. To match the richness of the fruit, Scipione aged the wine in barrel for a few months, lending it mellow roundness and complexity.

The result? Il Papavero was rated 90 points by judges at the Decanter World Wine Awards. They wrote, “Olive, chocolate and plum aromas. Nice sweetness and a good degree of ripeness. Elegant and polished, with structure and length.”

Serve to good friends, preferably with a heaping bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, or hearty braised lamb. And make sure to hurry for your share.
