Beyond the Label

When winemakers along France’s Atlantic Coast finish a long day in the winery, they flock to one of the many oyster shacks dotted along the beaches. Only two things are sold here: oysters and wine. However, since these establishments aren’t legally classified as restaurants, they can only sell one wine, so they make it the best they can find.

It was in one of these oyster shacks in Cap Ferret, just an hour and a half west of Bordeaux, that our expert discovered this dazzling white. Named after Bordeaux’s prized oysters, Les Belons is a vibrant, citrus-packed marriage of Sauvignon Blanc and local star Gros Manseng. You’re in for fresh-cut grass, lemon, and stone fruit aromas, followed by a crisp, mouthwatering palate with waves of ripe citrus, peach, apricot, and complex mineral flavors.

The perfect match for Les Belons? Les belons, of course. These famous oysters (also called ‘European Flats’ outside of France) are known for their unique mineral taste and bring out the flinty notes in this lively white. You could also pair it with salads, grilled chicken, or white-sauced pastas.

Even if you can’t travel to gorgeous Cap Ferret, one sip of this exhilarating French white will take you there. Scoop up your share today.
