Lunatic Fringe hails from veteran winemaker Felipe Vial, who trained in France’s premium Côtes-du-Rhône region and worked at a top winery in the Maule Valley before joining renowned Viña TerraPura. Founded in 2004, TerraPura focuses on crafting quality, sustainably made wines. In fact, their wines are officially certified by the Wines of Chile Sustainability Code (which ensures compliance with high environmental, social and quality standards).
Speaking of sustainability, Lunatic Fringe’s quirky name and label are a nod to the winery’s vineyard crew—a herd of alpacas that provide a totally natural defense against pests and weeds. They also have rockin’ hairdos and have been known to wear sunglasses when it gets too bright (really!).
As for the Merlot itself, it’s equally delightful, with super-smooth strawberry and blueberry flavors, plus hints of wild herbs and pepper. Take inspiration from the alpacas and enjoy a glass on any sunny day, while rocking your favorite pair of shades, or pair it with beef empanadas, lamb chops, veggie kebabs and more (Merlot is very food friendly).
