Beyond the Label

Welcome to Patagonia, Argentina’s extreme southern frontier: land of icy-cold Antarctic winds and dazzlingly intense sunlight. Good news if you like intensely fresh reds that are big on flavor and deep in color.

The Schroeder family have braved the elements down here since 1927, winning regular gold medals and 90+ point scores, especially for their Malbecs. A few years ago, International Wine Challenge judges called this one a “fabulous cooler climate Malbec!” ... but they were really bowled over by the 2018 release, which they promptly awarded a 95-point gold medal.

When it comes to what to expect in your glass, the IWC experts noted “inky purple colors with powerful damson and black cherry notes with coffee and mocha finish.” You may also pick up a distinctive, spicy edge, thanks to a little oak aging. Pour with your favorite steak (Malbec’s classic match), carnitas, game meats or even lentil-driven vegetarian dishes.

High demand (and limited supply) for Malbec of this caliber means interested parties should nab their share soon, to avoid missing out.
