Beyond the Label

“The combination of diverse terroirs, old vines and pure winemaking talent is hard to beat,” says Master of Wine Tim Atkin about South Africa. We whole-heartedly agree, and all that winemaking talent is on full display in The Gooseberry Bush, a super-fresh white from the lauded Bon Courage estate.

The Cape Dutch homestead dates back to 1818, but things did really get growing until the 1920s. The Bruwer family purchased it in 1927 and now—three generations later—they win armfuls of awards each year.

A classic South African combo of crisp Colombard and citrus-charged Sauvignon Blanc, this may be their most thirst-quenching release, yet.

A pale straw color with green glints will light up your glass. Uplifting aromas of gooseberry (of course), grapefruit and fresh-cut grass introduce a complex palate filled with tropical fruits like guava and pineapple, underscored by notes of fig and lime. Zesty and appetizing, this is best served solo or alongside an avocado and prawn salad or grilled chicken.
