When this vibrant white was first launched, critic Oz Clarke called it “Aussie sunshine in a glass.” And that’s still true of the latest vintage, a delicious blend of mostly Trebbiano and Vermentino from the talented Sam Trimboli.

Beyond the label

Once called “Aussie sunshine in a glass” by top wine critic Oz Clarke, Yarrunga Field 2024 is a light- to medium-bodied tropical delight from New South Wales, Australia.

It comes from the talented Salvatore “Sam” Trimboli, a master blender with a knack for innovation, who emigrated to Australia from Italy in 1967, and started working in the Aussie wine industry at just 14 years old (after school and on weekends).

Though Sam is particularly passionate about the red Durif grape (known as Petite Sirah, to us Americans), he has a special place in his heart for Italian varieties and he was one of the first viticulturists in his region to begin growing them.

The blend of grapes used for Yarrunga Field has changed over the years, but the latest release showcases that affection.

A blend of mainly Trebbiano and a small amount of Vermentino, it exudes fruitiness, freshness and intensity in equal measure. Almost clear in color, it has a tropical nose of melon, guava and pineapple that leads into a mouth-filling palate of similar characteristics, cut by a streak of herbaceous acid.

Enjoy the wine on its own or sip it alongside soft cheeses, simply prepared fish or hearty roasted vegetables. Whatever you do, just be sure to serve it well chilled.
